Primary school pupils meet a range of workers

A keen and ambitious group of sixty four pupils at Hothfield Junior School in Silsden, West Yorkshire were given the opportunity to experience exactly what it feels like to be in a range of jobs at a careers event hosted by the school.

The fun-filled yet informative event featured representatives of several businesses and organisations both local and national, who provided a range of interactive, hands –on activities for the year six pupils to engage in.

Some of the businesses present at the event included The Royal Navy and Marines, Serco, The Leeds City College Hairdressing Department , Cinetic Landis, the West Yorkshire police, Fitness First and Karen Ross Photographers.

The event, which was organised by creativity and enterprise advisor of Education Bradford, Catherine Halliwell was described as “an absolutely amazing day”.

“They learned what qualifications and skills are needed for different jobs and that some of the skills they already use in school can be developed for work. The children are only three years away from choosing their GCSE options so it is not too early for them to be thinking about careers… they were really motivated… and gained a lot from it” Catherine commented.
